Well they went above and beyond when we asked. Apparently they had Sant outfit on hand, they took a bag and a couple of fake presents from the tree they had and went to our room and surprised Cassidy.
They have been wonderful!

We asked the hotel if they wouldn't mind delivering a present to Cassidy for Christmas. She was in the room and the lady at the front desk had some antlers on and that is who I asked. Well they went above and beyond when we asked. Apparently they had Sant outfit on hand, they took a bag and a couple of fake presents from the tree they had and went to our room and surprised Cassidy. They have been wonderful! Revisiting a camera phone pictures from eating at Pane e Vino. I really like this shot. Some other random food and street shots and then the museum. Which has some amazing lacquered wood pieces which are the sculptures you see.

Have you gathered that food is a very important part of our travels? If not I don't think you have been paying attention! lol.....
Hanoi had had amazing street food. Below, where you see the scissors cutting the sausage shaped thing is a banana coated with a sticky rice and then grilled. Then it was cut up, and put with some condensed milk and tapioca or something very similar to that. Cassidy and Trish loved it. On the blue table below we had what seemed like bacon soup, with grilled pork. They give you the odds and ends to fill out the soup as you with with the basil, garlic, noodles, sprouts, chilies and lettuce. It was amazingly delicious. We had three bowls, one for each. Trish and I had a beer a piece and it cost us 5.94 US dollars a piece. A meal for less than 2 bucks a piece with a couple of beers. Its hard to fathom how tasty and cheap it is, as those things in the US are hard to come by. A fast food dollar menu has NOTHING on street food in Vietnam, Cambodia or Thailand. The non street food we had was at an Italian place that Cassidy had found and was interested in. She picked a good one! The gnocchi was the best I have ever had. Cassidy had big chunks of cheese in her pasta. We started off with a four oils and fresh bread. Yum! The Temple of Literacy is Vietnams list university and it was built in 1070 for Confucian scholars. It was really quite elegant and interesting. It was also across the street from the art museum. Those pictures are on my phone and we I will post them as soon as I have the cord to transfer the images. The hotel we are staying at asked if we would mind taking a free walking tour. The tour guides are university students that want to practice their English skills, and we said "sure, why not?"
So that is the young Vietnamese ladies you will see in a couple of pictures. We went to the local cathedral and an awesome lunch. Later we went to the night market for some wandering around as well. |
