So much testing, so many events, and a group of teachers we care about are now leaving, as they have done their time and are going to other schools. One couple to Cambodia. One to Czech Republic, one couple back to the States to teach in their home town of NYC. The students leaving and graduating is of course emotional as well, but as I don't teach many of the older students I didn't have a great a bond with many of them as Trish did. Nonetheless there were a few that it was hard to see go after such a short period of time. Short in the sense of one school year as sometimes it seemed very long! lol
They have tradition of the seniors writing graduation cards that they give to teachers that made a difference. Trish had over half of her students write her a card which is an impressive haul. Sometimes the notes are surprisingly frank, and often shared feelings you didn't know you had stirred in the student. One of my students said he wouldn't have gotten into Pratt if it wasn't for me and that makes you feel great.
I had a few students who apparently I impacted more than I realized and received cards from them. Its a sweet tradition and wonderful to get that kind of feedback and acknowledgement.
So we bought a motorcycle! Yes a motorcycle and Trish was the first one on it when we got our lessons! lol.....She did awesome and today we took it for a quick spin. It feels weird, and scary on this twisting turning roads! Trying to remember which side of the road you are suppose to be on, particularly since so many drive down the middle!
We barely went anywhere, but each passing car and truck made us both a little nervous since you have either a mountain wall or a couple hundred feet drop on the opposite side. Here that cliff is called a cud, like what the cow chews, but you don't want to go over a cud! Sometimes there is cement blocks to try and keep you on the road, sometimes there aren't.
Then we brought it back home and put it in our go down, which is slang for metal shed. There it will sit for 5 weeks before we get back and then it will be too wet to drive it most days with the monsoon upon us.
Its a big step for us and at this late stage of my life I am surprise we bought one! All I can say though is WOO HOO!!
Now, as I write this we are 45 minutes away from being picked up to be driven to the mall first and then to the train station. After 5 hours or so on the train we will be in Delhi. Three days after that we will be boarding a plane to fly half way around the world and landing in Dallas!
Wow....its hard to imagine!
I will be visiting New York City, and perhaps Sarasota for Professional Development, so I will be scooting around the country as well before I head back, again, half way around the world, and be reunited with my pillow.
It will be an interesting 6 weeks or so!
