Well fish was small shrimps, in their shell, heads and tail. You just ate them whole and crunchy!

I bought this strange fruit. It was so weirdly light, and also came in a kind of fancy paper bag. It had a weird kind of mushy thud to it when you thumped it. Trish cut into it, and peeled it, and worked hard to free the fruit. Inside it was like a giant grapefruit. The skin is a bit thick, and the wedges were wet, but not juicy necessarily, and was kind of like a grapefruit in taste too. At our local grocery store. Chickens taste best when they have their heads still on. I don't know what kind has black skin, but it looks natural, but might not be. They do pack it with the spices they expect you to cook it with. Nothing is wasted. The sections along the walls are ALL yogurt and there are a couple more cases that have yogurt in them to that you don't see. And this below, not sure what it is. I will keep you updated. A little baking shop we discovered. Got some pans from them, frozen pizza crust, spices, whipping cream, pasta and our rum. After visiting the baking shop we got a bite to eat and it was an adventure. Everything I was picking wasn't available. There was no English on the waitresses side and no Mandarin on ours so it was a slow process picking things. The chopsticks had disposable tips. There is a little package of the tips and you put them in, use them, the restaurant tosses them, then re-uses the handles . Pretty neat. When we were trying to figure out what to order, the waitress pointed to one of the dishes and she said "Fish and walnuts" (so I guess I lied, there was some English on her side) and we said ok. We like fish and we like walnuts. Well fish was small shrimps, in their shell, heads and tail. You just ate them whole and crunchy! This is what I did with the pizza crusts!

I had been cleaning like mad before Trish arrived because I wanted it to be as nice as possible. Later Cassidy thought I was worried about those coming to her surprise party, but that wasn't the case as well. Making Trish feel welcomed was much more important.
Jeanne who is a wonderful lady had seen the apartment during the days previously with the laundry all around drying, bags exploded and trying to find space for everything. When she came to the party, she looked at it and told Trish, "Its like a new apartment, you should have seen it before!" Trish had kind of seen it via FaceTime, but that doesn't really show off the clutter as much. So here it is, and some extra views you didn't see before. Cassidy's birthday, like mine is at the beginning of the school year and is often missed because of that. Cassidy also being new to the school also meant that she didn't know many people.
She had been out with a friend of hers once with schoolmates, and did make some fast friends at school but I didn't really know any of them but Leah from across the hall, but I didn't want Cassidy's B-Day to go unnoticed. Trish arrived in the morning from the US on Cassidy's birthday as well, and after a long flight I knew she might be beat, but it was also a good idea to keep her awake so she could adjust her time. So I asked some teacher friends who Cassidy had gotten to know pretty well during the time before school started if they wouldn't mind coming over to surprise Cassidy. Not a typical surprise party like jumping out from behind the couch, but just show up, and surprise her that there is now a party happening. I asked Leah if she could invite a couple of students from school as well. She surprised me when she said she thinks about 8 of them will show up. Trish landed, and about midday was at the school, and spent the day there. Cassidy was ribbing me on the way home about lame birthdays she has had and that she barely remembers more of them. I made a fairly open but vague announcement to the teachers, to arrive around 6 pm and try to bring something to nibble on, but just show up. Around there was a knock on the door and I asked Cassidy to get the door and Colleen was there. Cassidy says, "I guess you want to see my dad?" and he politely says, "No I am here to see you and wish you a happy birthday." Cassidy was surprised and a little amused, but ok, whatever. Then a second knock came, and it was the students singing Happy Birthday to her in the hallway and she was floored. More and more knocks came, and more and more people and more and more food. It was a great time. Cassidy started the evening getting make up brushes from Trish and she thought that was going to be it as far as her birthday was concerned. She was very surprised, and I was very happy. At least a natural one......
Cassidy and I were sitting both at the table in our apartment and I was feeling a bit queasy and swore I was swaying some. And was wondering if one of my migraines was coming on. But it sure as hell felt like my chair, (they are barstool type chairs, tall with a single post) was swaying some. I am looking down trying to get my bearings and Cassidy asked if I felt the apartment moving. I said "yes, I thought it was me." She pointed out the door behind me was swinging some, and the overhead lights were swaying. Checking the internet, there was no report of earthquake, but we looked immediately. Then a little ladies, as we certainly felt something. Still nothing. Have been pondering it, Then Cassidy comes into my room about 20-30 minutes after the swaying with a report from a friend of hers Stateside that North Korea set off, or so it seems, a nuclear blast. Timewise, it all added up. Wow....life is interesting.... |
