We got a call from Heather who went down to meet them in Delhi with her husband David, that they would be showing up in about 5 minutes. So Trish and I slapped on our shoes and headed out to meet them.
Now this is not your typical environment, remember this. Its monsoon season, the clouds are rolling in and the path we have to take to meet them zigs and zags and switches back on itself as it works its way up the hill.
So, Trish and I head out and a very large troop of rhesus monkeys come down the hill and across our path. Now these monkeys are not the friendliest of monkeys. First, they have a lot of babies with them, and moms, protecting their babies. So a couple of times up the hill we came to a halt while a monkey was blocking our way. They have teeth that you don't want to mess with, so a couple of times in the stalemate we reach down to grab a rock which they know that action and would move along a bit. Rarely far enough to give us a full sense of not being in danger, but we moved cautiously past.
At the top of the hill there were a couple of moms and babies as well taking advantage of some trash that they found particularly delicious. So now moms, with babies and food. One red faced mom made a few threatening moves in our direction to let us know who was in charge!
Cassidy was excited to see monkeys up close, and I can't blame her, but we were more then happy to work our way back down the hill into our house. Later the nice and mellow langur monkeys came around to put on a small show which was a nice change of pace.
We sat around with Cassidy and Kaycie and listened to their adventures getting here. Almost missing the flight in DFW even though they arrived with plenty of time. Changing all their money in Dubai thinking it was in India. Then when in Delhi when they tried to buy a drink and they couldn't with the UAE money! That is when they realized that perhaps Dubai wasn't in India. To the hotel room with a lizard in the bed. The crazy bus ride up the hill, and finally to the soft comfort of our home.
Sadly, Cassidy has two days of orientation and then BANG! school begins! But its great to have her here!
