Forgive me forgive me forgive me.....I try to be a little judicious on the images and not have too many of the same thing, or slight change in angles, but the Taj, its just amazing and its hard to identify which image is the one that says "IT" and from every angle and spot, it sits there in its majestic glory and makes you pause, and just say, "wow!"
The Taj Mahal, built between 1632-1653 is a monument of love. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan on a 42 acre complex, it would cost almost 1 billions USD today to build. Built in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal who died during labor of their 14th child. Its consider one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture and is world renowned for its beauty and ageless perfection. So, enjoy........ First glimpse of the Taj way in the distance, but from our hotel. Well the hotels hallway! It won't be the following day that we will see it up close and personal though. We had a tour guide to help us at the Taj and Fort Agra. He was great honestly. Also, because of that we got more family pictures this time then ever before. Fort Agra is essentially a walled city as many of the first of the era were. Fort Agra, legend has it, is where Shah Jahan died, imprisoned by his son, on the balcony where he could see the Taj Mahal. It was Shah Jahan that builr that Taj in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan was Akbar's grandson. Below is the balcony that legend says Shah Jahan died on while gazing at the Taj. He was imprisoned by his son, Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb also killed his brothers and sisters. Not a nice individual at all! Below that is the view Shah Jahan had of the Taj. Look--9, yes 9 separate taxes on a mac and cheese!
On our way to Agra, we stopped at Akbar's Tomb, the greatest of the Mughal Emperors. Built between 1605-1613 and is considered a masterpiece of Mughal architecture.
He conquered move of the Indian sub content. While the areas he conquered had to pledge allegiance to him, he was very tolerant of other religions and ideas. He consolidated power afterwards through marriage and other peaceful means to keep a firm grip on the areas he had under his rule. |
